Why We Built Our Own Software to Run Can U Dig It RC

When we started Can U Dig It RC, we did what most small businesses do.

We looked for software.

Booking software. Point of sale. Memberships. Customer management. Email marketing. Inventory. Reporting.

The problem was that every solution seemed to create another login, another subscription, and another place where part of the business lived.

Eventually we realized something:

We didn’t need more software. We needed one system built around the way our business actually works.

So we started building our own.

Our Business Doesn’t Fit Neatly Into One Box

Can U Dig It RC is part entertainment venue, part retail operation, part event business, and part mobile experience.

We have timed sessions, memberships, loyalty rewards, gift cards, equipment assignments, batteries, maintenance, birthday parties, mobile events, walk-ins, online bookings, and customers coming back over and over.

Most off-the-shelf software could handle one or two pieces of that.

Very little could connect all of it.

So instead of changing the business to fit the software, we started changing the software to fit the business.

One System Instead of a Stack of Subscriptions

Today, our platform connects much of what happens at Can U Dig It RC.

Customers can book sessions, manage their accounts, see memberships and credits, purchase gift cards, earn loyalty rewards, and interact with the business online.

Staff can manage bookings, payments, active sessions, customers, equipment, inventory, memberships, events, maintenance, and more from the same system.

Marketing, newsletters, website content, reporting, expenses, and business analytics are tied into it too.

The strength isn’t that it has a giant list of features.

The strength is that the different parts of the business actually know about each other.

A customer isn’t one record in the booking system and another in the POS.

A session isn’t just an appointment on a calendar.

A machine isn’t just an inventory item.

Everything is connected to the way the business actually operates.

It Was Built From Real Problems

A lot of the software exists because something happened in the store and we thought:

“There has to be an easier way to do this.”

Maybe it was managing session timers.

Maybe it was keeping track of equipment repairs.

Maybe it was following up with an event lead.

Maybe it was figuring out how many membership sessions someone had left.

Instead of waiting for another software company to build exactly what we needed, we could build it ourselves.

That has become one of the biggest advantages of the platform.

AI Helps, but It Isn’t the Point

We also use AI throughout parts of the system.

It can help organize information, draft content, summarize business activity, assist with marketing, and reduce repetitive work.

But AI works best when it is connected to useful systems and real business data.

For us, the goal has never been to let AI run the personality of Can U Dig It RC.

Our approach is pretty simple:

Use AI for repetition. Keep the human voice.

It’s Becoming Part of the Bigger Picture

What started as software for our own store is becoming an important part of how we think about expanding Can U Dig It RC.

Someone can buy excavators.

They can build a crawler course.

They can rent a building.

The harder part is everything behind the scenes.

Bookings. Sessions. Customers. Equipment. Memberships. Marketing. Follow-ups. Reporting. Operations.

Those are problems we’ve already spent a lot of time working through.

And instead of handing a future operator a list of 15 different software subscriptions, we can give them a system designed around the business from day one.

We’re Still Building It

The software keeps changing because the business keeps changing.

Every new event, customer situation, membership idea, or operational headache gives us another opportunity to improve it.

That’s probably the part I like most.

We don’t have to wait for someone else to decide whether our problem is worth solving.

If something would make the business easier to run, we can build it.

And a surprising number of features have started with one sentence:

“You know what would make this easier?”
